You too can make your own agility jumps. It is easy and cheap. Just follow these simple instructions, and shortly you will be practicing those serpentines in your own back yard (thank God!)

The picture to the left shows a home made PVC jump. The materials you will need, with two exceptions, are all available at your local Home Depo, Lowes, Osh or other warehouse home supply company.

These are optional tools that can make your construction task easier. The jar is PVC glue, and costs around $2- $3. The cap contains an applicator. The colored PVC tape comes with a number of colored rolls for a few dollars, usually in a plastic bag hanging in the aisles near the PVC. A rubber mallet is handy for making the PVC polls and connectors fit tightly without damaging the PVC.
This tool is essential in my opinion. You can use a hacksaw to cut the PVC. But this $10 tool, called a PVC cutter and available at Home Depo, makes cutting PVC quick, clean and easy. You get perfect, straight cut without any shavings. To use the tool pull the blade open as far as possible, put the pole between the blade and lower jaw, then squeeze and release repeatedly, letting the rackett do all the work. Cuts like a knife through soft butter!
Jump Cups from Clean Run: You need one set of jump cups per jump. There are multiple kinds out there, and you can make your own, but these from Clean Run Magazine are the best - pre-measured, clip on, and sturdy. Get them <here> for $______.
The jump cups have clips on the back, and fit well on one inch PVC pipe. You will simply measure 26 inches from the ground on your completed jump and draw a line around the pole, then clip on the jump cups and slide them to line up to the line and your pole heights are all pre-meaured. The cups come with screws and are pre-drilled, so if you like just drill small holes in the PVC and add the screws to keep the cups at the right height.
The only other thing you need to buy by mail is the PVC connectors for the jump standards. You need two standards per jump (one per standard). While most PVC elements you need can be purchased at Home Depo, you won't find these there because it is rare you want water to flow 5 ways! But you can also buy these by mail from Clean Run. Order them here for $____.
You will need to buy 10 foot long PVC poles. Get the size that is 1" in diameter. Buy 2 per jump. Measure and cut 2 sections that are 4 feet (48") each. These will be the top and bottom pole. Now cut two sections that are 3 feet (36") each. These are the right and left standards. Take the six (6) feet that are left and cut them into six one foot long sections. You also need 8 1" PVC caps. Glue one of these on to one end of the 3 foot sections, and one ends of each of the 6 one foot sections. Then glue the other end of the three foot sections into the 5 way connector. Also glue the 3 one foot sections into the 5 way connector. Glueing the bottom pole into the 5 way conector is optional.
Now clip on the jump clips, screw in if desired, and put the PVC tape on your top bar. Place the bar at the correct height, and have a go at it. Best of luck!
The PVC tape is important because it can maket the bar so much easier to see.

And here, again, is the finished product. Only glue the bottom bar into the standards if you plan to store the jump in one piece. The rubber mallet helps keep the pieces together.

The bottom rail acts as both a stablizer and ground rail.

The three element foot makes it harder to store the jumps, and place jumps side by side, but greatly increases the stability of the jump. They also allow the standard to stand alone, so they can be used to practice figure 8's for obedience, if you are so inclined!
